Hi Heels
Five months ago, I thought that I had lost the other half of myself. Really, I had only lost the left half of my favorite pair of heels I had ever owned. They were black open-toed Jessica Simpson platform heels that fit me perfectly, made my legs look amazing and were extremely comfortable. They were my go to shoe for any and nearly all occasions. I truly loved them. To think about my life without them nearly brought me to tears. Just the other day I found the missing shoe hiding deep under my bed. I screamed to my empty apartment, “Oh my God! Oh my God! My baby!” An intense wave of happiness surged through me as I reunited the shoes and squeezed them against my chest. Yes, all of this over a pair of heels.
High heels hold a magic power. There is a feeling that comes with heels, one strong enough to overcome the, at times, physical discomfort. When I put on a pair of heels I feel sexy, confident, elegant and unstoppable. In one word: badass. Maybe this is why I own more heels than any other pair of shoes. I believe that most women have the same feelings when they slip on their favorite heels.
One can’t argue the effects that heels have not only on women, but men as well. Men always seem to take notice to a woman in heels. I believe they notice her finished presentation and the confidence she exudes. Not that you can’t meet a wonderful man while you’re on a hike in your Nikes, or at the grocery store in your Tory Burch flats, but in terms of how you present yourself, heels are like the olives in a dirty martini…you may taste great without them, but you look better with them.
I thought about Cinderella and her glass slippers. Without her slippers would she and Prince Charming ever gotten together? This is a story of fiction of course, but there does seem to be a correlation between women, heels, and men. No one was writing about riding into the sunset with glass flats!
As a modern society, we have come a long way with how we view women. Women and men today are treated with more equality than they ever have been in any point in history; something to be greatly celebrated. But, I think there is something very romantic about women being women and men being men. I like the idea of a woman putting on a dress and a great pair of heels and her man being totally enthralled by her appearance.
I say that the woman who wears the heels wields the power. The next time you go out, put on your favorite heels and flash your brightest smile and watch the magic happen. Prince Charming or not, you are nothing less than a Queen. Now, which heels to wear?
