A few weeks ago, my stateside friends and I decided we would show our Japanese friends how Americans celebrate July with a little Independence Day fireworks celebration. With our sparklers and handheld explosives, we thought our presentation was the real deal. On Saturday, I realized that our little fire bursts of US pride pale in comparison with the Hanabi Festivals.
