P1030509Since the age of 19, I have been in 3 significant relationships.

#1 – The Promise Ring. A promise accepted for a promise never kept. I should have known though. I wore a commitment ring for Jesus in high school too, but umm, spoiler alert, that didn’t quite work out either.

#2 – Gumby the Comedian. There were ups and lots of downs. We loved each other to our own detriment.

#3 – Turkish Delight (present boyfriend). Foreign, sweet, and madly in love with me.

These men have something in common: distance from me.

It was a sad realization the other day. I have spent almost 10 years in long distance relationships (LDRs). Longest record: 2.5 years with Gumby the Comedian, on/off for 5+. There were breaks in between and lovers that filled the time. “I could write stories,” I hear my future self say.

I know I’m not the first, and certainly not the last to find herself in an LDR. But three? It has to be some kind of record. Guinness Book, do tell. It’s the things we do for love, I suppose. But it begs the question, am I more attracted to the man, or the man at the distance?

I am, by far, no expert as you can see from my track record. It wasn’t distance that broke up in the first 2 relationships. It was the timing and compatibility. Only time will tell with #3.
